Congratulations to both programs on a succesful weekend.
The Rocky Mountain Challenge is one of five regional tournaments supported by USA Rugby and is part of the selection process for international team play in 2011. The event will feature more than 40 matches, with preliminary rounds on June 18 and the semifinals and championship games played on June 19
Players from Rugby Colorado member clubs make up the Rugby Colorado select sides u17's and u19 teams.
This is a preliminary announcement of the Summer Sevens Program for this year. There are some details to be worked out, but you can count on the following:
- Starting June 22, it will run every Wednesday, from 5-6pm, through the Wednesday before Sneath Sevens, July 20th. That's 5 evenings.
- For you that didn't participate last year, this is meant to be a traditional fun, friendly and competitive summer rugby event. It's played on two half fields so it's not as wide open as 'real 7's'.
- Sevens is a great way to introduce new kids to the sport and we had a lot of participation from new kids last year. This is meant to be a great recruiting opportunity where new kids can come out and get their feet wet in the comparatively simple game of 'Sevens'
- 'Age Requirement' is that you must have graduated in the 2010 HS class or later. It's designed to give the guys one more chance to play with their mates that graduated a year ago.
- Regular ERRFU/Rocky Mountain Rugby Refs will be doing the games and we will have a trainer on site.
- To guarantee 2 games per night, we are going to limit it to 6 teams. If you want to get a team in, please contact me at my personal email This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it . We've had a decent amount of interest and the field may fill up fast. If it doesn't, we'll do the same thing as last year and let 'walk-ups' field a 'Motley Side'. Teams can sign up just as the RC teams currently exist, or there's nothing to keep 2 or 3 teams from combining to make up a side, or even just a random group of friends. (Any participants trying to put together a 'Super Team' will be severely frowned upon as not being in the spirit of 'Summer Rugby' ! )
- Cost is an amazingly low $15/person, or $135/team.
- This turned out to be quite a good time last year. Think about giving it a try !

Tab Hicks was as many know a powerful and influential part of the Colorado Springs HS· Boys Rugby successful program and passionate about the future of the sport within the USA.
He also assisted on the ERRFU Colorado State Select team, with the development of NZRUGBYUSA, R80 Rugby and the NZ / USA Canterbury Crusaders Elite Rugby camps.
The rugby team visited him Friday afternoon and presented him with a signed rugby ball which bought smiles and tears to his face. It was as very emotional moment. Several hours after this he peacefully slipped away after losing the battle with prostrate cancer. Written by John Paterson
